Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Saudi Arabia for a state visit

He will not attend the talks with US officials on Tuesday, at which Kyiv is expected to push for a truce with Russia in the sea and sky

It remains unclear what Washington is prepared to offer in exchange for access to Ukraine’s mineral wealth – a state department official says the US believes Kyiv is “ready to move forward”

A Kremlin spokesperson says Russia is at “an initial stage of restoring bilateral relations” with the US, adding that conversations between Trump and Putin are “constructive”

Russia and Ukraine are still very far apart on what they would accept in a final peace deal, writes the BBC’s Security correspondent Frank Gardner
