Economist Prof. Patrick Asuming has urged the government to adopt a long-term strategy to resolve the persistent challenges facing the Energy sector.
His call comes amid concerns over the sector’s growing debt.
Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Jinapor recently acknowledged the financial struggles within the energy sector and announced plans to establish a second gas processing plant as part of efforts to address the crisis.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV with Selorm Adonoo on Saturday, March 8, 2025, Prof. Asuming stressed the importance of a clear, actionable strategy to ensure lasting solutions.
“Now they have told us all the problems, we want to see a long-term strategy. A strategy that is believable, with clear timelines that we know that if you follow it, ultimately, we will solve our energy sector problems once and for all,” he stated.
He also called for improvements in the governance and management of the ECG, emphasizing that better leadership and operational efficiency are crucial to stabilizing the energy sector.
