The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has announced plans to improve monitoring of meals provided under the School Feeding Programme.

This comes amid concerns from parents, teachers, and pupils about the poor quality and lack of essential nutrients in the meals served in basic schools across the regions.

Speaking to Citi News, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit at the Ministry, Bismark Bless Nyadzi, outlined measures to address these concerns and improve the programme’s effectiveness.

“There’ll be constant monitoring, unannounced monitoring to, schools to ensure that the teachers are, cooking or giving quality food to our children. So this is something that will not invite or we will not inform the teachers. We’ll just come unannounced. So when we find out that what you are giving to the children is not of quality, then the ministry will advise on that.”

He also noted that stakeholder engagements are ongoing to address caterers’ concerns about the GHS 1.90 feeding fee per child.
