Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has urged the head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, to resolve the ongoing captaincy issue within the team as he prepares to announce his final squad next week for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
The ex-player believes that such sensitive matters, which have persisted in the national team for some time, must be addressed to prevent an unhealthy dressing room atmosphere ahead of these crucial matches.
Badu believes decisive action from Addo is essential to bring clarity on the captaincy issue and stability to the squad.
“I have said it many times that with the severity of this captaincy, if you don’t take care in treating it or calming nerves and focus, we will always mess up. This is exactly what has been in the national team, it is a very sensitive matter. I don’t want to go deeper into the issues, but we are begging the hierarchy, including the minister, to sit down and bring some finality to this campaign issue. We are going into a dangerous World Cup qualifier, and as to how, if you ask anyone who the captain is, nobody knows,” he stated.
