Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has hinted at the possibility of enforcing stricter sanitation measures, including fines for individuals who violate sanitation regulations in the region.

Speaking to the media during a cleanup exercise today, March 6, 2025, as part of activities marking Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebration in the region, he revealed that a proposal to penalise offenders is under consideration.

The minister reiterated that he will not hesitate to deploy sanitation officers, particularly in the Central Business District, to ensure compliance and maintain cleanliness.

“There is equally a selection on my table concerning the deployment of sanitation officers, I mean graduates from the school of hygiene, so they can serve as compliance officers to make sure they do the right thing. You litter, you pay. We can even generate funds from there.

“I know there can be concern of leakages when such levies are introduced among others but once we put our heads together that we want to do this to make sure we clean the city and to make sure we restore the garden city, I am sure with that unity of purpose we should be able to achieve same,” he said.
