The Electoral Commission(EC) has announced plans to convene a meeting in the coming weeks to conduct a comprehensive review of the 2024 general election and address outstanding issues, particularly concerning the Ablekuma North Constituency.
Nearly three months after the polls, the EC has yet to declare a winner for the constituency, fueling tensions between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Wednesday, February 26, Director of Elections and Research for the NPP, Evans Nimako indicated that the house would have been happy if the EC tabled the Ablekuma North parliamentary election for discussion.
“Parliamentary is not over and at the point, the NPP wants to make a point that there is no way we can meet on the first IPAC meeting of 2025 and not discuss the only constituency remaining in the parliamentary elections,” he said.
In response, the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa affirmed that in the coming days, the commission will fix a date to deliberate on the Ablekuma North Parliamentary elections thoroughly.
“Our purpose here is not to undertake an in-depth examination or review of the elections. We are well aware that the political parties are undertaking their own reviews and so are we.
“We intend to also meet with our regional leaders and heads in the coming days to undertake a thorough examination and assessment of the 2024 election,” she stated.
