Dr. David Ofosu Dorte, Senior Partner at AB & David Africa, has attributed the struggles of many African countries, including Ghana, to the absence of a well-defined strategy for sustainable development.
Speaking at the Swedru Conversations on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the British Council in Accra, Dr. Ofosu Dorte stressed that the lack of strategic planning has left many African nations vulnerable to economic and governance challenges.
He pointed out that systemic weaknesses, exacerbated by disunity, create opportunities for opportunistic individuals to exploit national resources and policies for personal gain.
Dr. Ofosu Dorte called for greater unity among Africans, emphasizing that a collective and strategic approach is essential to preventing external and internal manipulation that hinders progress.
“The other problem we must talk about is the lack of strategy and the failure to distinguish strategy from tactics. Many African countries including Ghana suffer from a lack of strategy. As a result, they are unable to combat all these pressures.
“And you find that also as a result, there are professional opportunity takers who find the opportunities to be able to infiltrate and take advantage of the disunity that we have.”
He further questioned the short-term mindset that often dominates governance.
“How is it that we have turned our societies into a situation where instead of looking for long-term goals, everything is transitional? And everything we do is just for that transition”.
Dr. Ofosu Dorte’s speech underscored the importance of developing a structured and long-term strategy to ensure lasting growth and stability across Africa.
