The Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, has reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy on illegal mining, known as galamsey, warning that no Member of Parliament (MP) or minister found complicit will be exempt from accountability.

Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Wednesday, February 19, Muhammed underscored President John Dramani Mahama’s firm directive on the issue and the government’s unwavering commitment to combating the menace.

He stressed that all individuals involved, regardless of their political status, would face the full force of the law.

“Anybody who is engaged in galamsey activities, whether you are a minister or an MP, you wouldn’t be spared, and President Mahama has made it very, very clear,” Muhammed stated.

He affirmed his responsibility, along with other ministers, to lead the fight against illegal mining and ensure that no one is above the law.

“As a minister responsible to lead this fight with other ministers we are not going to renege on that responsibility,” he stated.
