Customs Officers open fire on uncustomed vehicle, Engineer hit by stray bullets

A man sustained gunshot injuries after customs officers opened fire on an uncustomed vehicle attempting to evade arrest on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, around 9 PM.

The vehicle, a Benz with registration number GC 3361-14, was being pursued by customs officials at Sogakofe when officers fired shots, hitting its rear windshield.

In the process, Alex, an engineer at the South Tongu District Assembly, was struck by two stray bullets while waiting at the roadside to board a vehicle to Accra.

“A pickup was chasing a car and stop in front of us and few seconds later, we heard gunshots. Before we could realize a man who was at the roadside waiting to board a vehicle to Accra was hit by the bullets. And we identified those who shot as the customs officials. They have however arrested the uncustomed vehicle they were chasing.,” an eyewitness told Citi News.

Alex was rushed to Comboni Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
