The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) will hit the streets on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 to demonstrate against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) over the cancellation and withholding of results for some candidates of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

NUGS has duly informed the Greater Accra Regional Police Command of its planned demonstration that will take place in the capital beginning at Obra Spot, Circle, Accra.

The student body has strongly criticized WAEC’s handling of the results, arguing that thousands of students have been unfairly affected.

According to NUGS, even students whose results were eventually released have faced significant challenges, as the delays made them ineligible for admission into public tertiary institutions, where the admission process has already been completed. Additionally, students whose results were canceled are unable to register for remedial exams, as WAEC had closed registration on January 7, 2025, before releasing the results.

“This demonstration is a protest against what we see as an injustice and an abuse of discretionary power by WAEC,” NUGS stated in its statement. The student body is demanding immediate intervention to rectify the situation and ensure that affected students are given a fair chance to continue their education.

NUGS has therefore called on all affected students, parents, stakeholders, and concerned citizens to join the demonstration in a united stand for justice.
