The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has reactivated its plan for a nationwide strike, set to begin on Thursday, February 20, 2025, following the continued stay of the newly appointed Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway, despite government assurances of an intervention.
In a communication issued to all regional offices, referencing an earlier letter dated February 13, 2025, CLOGSAG directed its members to prepare for the industrial action, reaffirming its stance.
“The strike is on!” the statement declared, signaling the association’s unwavering commitment to its demands.
The government had previously announced the reassignment of Mr. Botchway after strong opposition from CLOGSAG.
In a statement on February 14, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, assured that the matter had been resolved, stating, “In the truest spirit of cooperation and understanding, we are happy to announce that the matter has been resolved and there will be no nationwide strike by CLOGSAG.”
However, despite this assurance, CLOGSAG maintains that Mr. Botchway is still in office. Reports indicate that he represented the Births and Deaths Registry at a budget hearing at the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs on February 17, 2025, prompting the association to reconsider its decision to hold off on the strike.
Following this, CLOGSAG has called on all its members to remain resolute and fully prepared for the industrial action on Thursday, emphasizing its determination to push for compliance with its demands.
