President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the critical role of the Council of State, emphasizing that it is not a mere ceremonial body but an essential institution that helps balance executive power.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of 31 newly appointed members, President Mahama highlighted the Council’s responsibility to provide sound advice to the government for the nation’s progress.

The President further described the Council as a distinguished advisory body composed of individuals with integrity, experience, and sound judgment.

He urged members to provide guidance on governance, policy, and national development, drawing from their diverse expertise.

“The framers of our constitution in their wisdom envisioned a governance structure that balances authority with sound counsel, power with prudence, and leadership with wisdom. It is in this spirit that the Council of State was established to serve as a reservoir of experience, a fountain of guidance, and a bastion of non-partisan insight for the executive arm of government. The Council of State is a distinguished advisory body. It is composed of men and women of integrity, experience, and sound judgment. Your role is not merely ceremonial, it is one of profound responsibility. You are expected to offer wise counsel on matters of governance, policy, and national development drawing from your diverse background and experience,”  he stated.
