President John Dramani Mahama has officially declared his assets to the Auditor-General, a move he says is to promote transparency and accountability in his government.
The declaration, made on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, is part of Mahama’s dedication to reinforce the importance of integrity in public service.
Speaking on the significance of the move, the president stressed the role of transparency in restoring public confidence in leadership.
“In the past, I would privately submit these forms to the Auditor-General to fulfill my statutory obligation. However, I have now chosen to make this process public as a demonstration of openness and accountability in governance.
“While punishing corruption is important, a more effective approach is preventing it before it happens. If properly implemented and enforced, asset declaration can serve as a sustainable tool in the fight against corruption,” Mahama stated.
He further urged government appointees to follow his example by declaring their assets, warning that those who fail to comply risk being dismissed from office.
