Former Deputy Minister of Education, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s plan to hold a National Education Forum, alleging that it is a strategy to avoid implementing certain promised policies.
In an interview on the Channel One Newsroom on Monday February 17, Fordjour expressed his skepticism about the forum’s true intentions.
“What they are going to do for me I see it to be a disguise for an excuse not to do certain things they promised they were going to do. For instance, at the end of the day, some policy proposals will come, and under the guise of stakeholders, they will say that we felt that we were going to expand Free SHS to cover private schools, but considering our financial situation, stakeholders have advised that we hold on,” he remarked.
Fordjour’s comments come in the wake of the NDC government’s announcement of the National Education Forum, intended to discuss and set the vision for the education sector.
However, the former deputy minister argues that such a forum is unnecessary and diverts attention from fulfilling the campaign promises made to the electorate.
He emphasised that the government should focus on implementing the specific promises outlined in their manifesto, such as expanding the Free SHS policy to private schools and addressing other pressing issues in the education sector.
Fordjour insisted that the public expects the government to translate their manifesto pledges into actionable policies.
