Govt renews Bawku curfew, enforces total ban on weapons

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has renewed the curfew imposed on Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas in the Upper East Region.

The directive, issued under an Executive Instrument, is expected to take effect from Monday, February 17, 2025, the curfew will run from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily.

The government has urged Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, and the youth to exercise restraint amidst ongoing challenges and to seek peaceful, non-violent solutions to conflicts in the area.

Additionally, a total ban remains in place on the possession of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons within the affected communities.

Authorities have warned that anyone found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted.
