Kwaku Krobea Asante, Programmes Manager of the Independent Journalism Project at the Media Foundation for West Africa , has revealed that individuals aged 80 to 90 years were found on the National Service Authority (NSA) payroll.

According to him, top officials at the NSA also generated fake university index numbers to facilitate fraudulent payments.

The revelations follow an investigative report by The Fourth Estate in November 2024.

Speaking on The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV, Kwaku Krobea Asante detailed how the NSA operated during Akufo-Addo’s tenure.

He stated: “We see how they do this, how they pack the ghost names which is what the story is trying to say. How they use over-age people, 80-year-olds, and 90-year-olds to put their data in there. How they create fake index numbers in the name of universities so that they can justify them.”

The revelation comes after President John Dramani Mahama ordered an investigation into 81,885 suspected ghost names discovered on the NSA payroll.

Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, stated that the irregularities were uncovered during a headcount of active national service personnel.

The audit was requested by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, as part of efforts to clear outstanding allowance arrears dating back to August 2024.
