Saaka Abuba has been declared the winner of the North East Region’s Council of State election, securing his place as the region’s representative following a tightly contested re-run.
The election, held on Monday, February 17, 2025, saw Abuba secure 7 out of 12 votes, defeating his closest rival, Asabigi San Malunga, who polled 5 votes.
The re-run became necessary after the initial election ended in a tie, with both leading candidates receiving 6 votes each. This deadlock prompted the Electoral Commission to organize a second round of voting to determine a clear winner.
The voting process, though brief, was conducted under tight security and strict adherence to electoral guidelines, ensuring a transparent and peaceful exercise.
