The Ministry of Interior has imposed a dawn-to-dusk curfew on Walewale in the North East Region and its surrounding areas in response to recent violent attacks and killings along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway.
The directive, signed by the minister, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, takes effect from Saturday, February 15, 2025, and will be enforced daily from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am.
This decision follows a series of deadly assaults that have resulted in the deaths of at least nine people, including a child, within the past week.
Additionally, four vehicles have been set ablaze by unknown assailants, escalating fears among residents and travelers along the highway.
In a statement, the Minister emphasized the need for calm and urged community leaders, including Chiefs, Elders, and Opinion Leaders, to help maintain order.
He called on the youth and the general public to refrain from acts of violence and instead work towards restoring peace in the affected areas.
Furthermore, the government has announced a total ban on carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within Walewale and its environs. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to arrest and prosecute anyone found in possession of such items.
Security forces have been deployed to the area to enforce the curfew and ensure the safety of residents and commuters. Authorities have reassured the public that measures are being taken to track down the perpetrators behind the attacks and bring them to justice.
Residents and travelers are advised to comply with the curfew regulations and cooperate with security agencies to restore normalcy in the region.
