President John Dramani Mahama has urged African nations to work together in pursuit of a fair, just, and equitable future for the continent.
Speaking at the opening session of the 38th African Union (AU) Heads of State Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, he highlighted the need for collective action to address the historical injustices faced by African people.
In his remarks, focused on the summit’s theme, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” he reiterated Ghana’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at securing reparations for those impacted by colonialism and slavery.
“Through this launch, we seek to, among other things, mobilize the political will towards reparatory justice to racial healing. Present a roadmap for implementing the 2025 theme of the year; foster partnership among AU members diasporan communities and like-minded international allies. Engage stakeholders in resource mobilisation efforts to support reparation initiatives across Africa.
“Elevate awareness and advocacy to ensure sustained engagement beyond 2025. Encourage dialogue and knowledge sharing among experts, policymakers, historians, and affected communities. Finally to ensure an end to the culture of silence and denial on racism and colonialism,” he stated.
