The Director General of the National Road Safety Authority and a leading legal team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, has defended Dominic Ayine’s decision to discontinue certain legal cases, describing them as too murky to pursue.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, February 15, 2025, Amaliba stated his preference for Ayine’s judgment over that of Attorney General Godfred Dame.

Amaliba explained that legal perspectives on cases often differ among attorneys, citing the Richard Jakpa case, he stated that in some jurisdictions, actions taken by the former Attorney General would have led to disbarment.

“I would rely on the credibility of Dominic Ayine more than Godfred Dame any day. This is because Dominic Ayine has been on record to prosecute his government appointee, which is Abugah Pele.

“Godfred Dame is on record as having discontinued the investigation of a colleague, which is Cecilia Dapaah. So on any day, I will reply to the judgment of Dominic Ayeni as against that of Godfred Dame.

“As lawyers, we have different perspectives. If one lawyer thinks that witness tempering is important and it affects the credibility of the case in court, his conclusion on the case will be different from another who doesn’t see anything wrong with that. And it was clear in the Japka case, in some jurisdictions, what the then attorney general did, he would have been debarred.

“So, if you have such a case before you as an attorney general. Hearing your predecessor saying that ‘I am under pressure to nail Ato Forson’ in the conversation he had with Jakpa. So, when you call a witness and you subject the witness to such a discussion, how do you expect me, if I become an attorney general in such a case to continue,” he quizzed.

“So, I will agree with Dominic Ayine to discontinue the cases. Because it was so murky.”
