The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for a group of thugs who stormed the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and disrupted today’s Council of State Regional Elections in Kumasi.
The group was said to have forcefully entered the venue, overturning tables, destroying ballot boxes, and scattering voting materials, compelling Electoral Commission (EC) officials to suspend the process.
The unrest is believed to have been triggered by the unexpected defeat of National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, who was widely considered a frontrunner.
Supporters, reportedly aggrieved by the outcome, allegedly instigated the violence, demanding a review of the results.
The police, in a statement, noted that they were reviewing all available footage to identify and arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
