Council of State Elections: 32-year-old Maxwell Boakye wins Western Region

A 32-year-old businessman based in Tarkwa, Dr. Maxwell Boakye has won the Western Regional Council of State election after securing 17 votes out of the total 28 votes cast in the first round of the elections contested by 9 candidates.

The closest contender, Akwasi Nsiah-Awuah had 10 votes and Adjei Clement secured a single vote with the remaining candidates all getting zero votes.

The winner, Dr. Maxwell Boakye who hails from Sameraboi in the Western Region speaking after being declared as the winner said the time has come for the youth to also have a voice in the governance of the region and country.

“President Mahama has shown that he is ready to work with youth in his government. In fact, our elders have had enough time to be on the previous Council of State. The time has come for the youth to also have their chance to get a voice in government. Everyone here knows my hard work. I promise to work for the youth and region” said.

The full list who candidates who contested in the  Council of States Election for the region are; Akwasi Nsiah-Awuah, Clement Adjei, Nana Akosua Gyamfiaba, Dr. Maxwell Boakye, Nana Nkanomako IV, Nana Bonya Kofi VI, Morttey Ernest Selorm, Jacob Oppong-Acquah and Mohammed Danjumah Alhassan.

Meanwhile, in the North East Region, voting concluded without a clear winner as seven aspirants contested for the position, with two candidates—Saaka Abuba and Asabigi San Malunga Nasamu—each securing six votes out of the 12 delegates, while the other five candidates received zero votes, prompting the Electoral Commission to schedule a re-run for Thursday, February 13.
