Residents of Teiman in the La Nkwantanang Municipality in the Greater Accra region have raised concerns over increasing land encroachment, particularly the construction of buildings on designated access roads, which they say poses serious safety risks and could lead to accidents.
In the New York City 1st Close area, frustrated residents have complained about structures, including a toilet facility, being built on key access routes, causing obstruction and frequent disputes among motorists navigating the narrow paths.
Madam Rose Gamon, a resident, claimed that her family owns part of the disputed land, which was originally designated as a community access road. She expressed worry over how the new constructions have created dangerous bottlenecks.
Despite repeated appeals to authorities, residents allege that encroachers rebuild structures even after demolitions, further worsening the situation.
They are calling on municipal authorities to take decisive action to restore access routes and ensure proper land use planning in the area.

During a visit by Channel One News, Kwame Gyamfi, one of the alleged encroachers, maintained that the land was legally sold to him and argued that the site plan designates the area as a lane rather than a road.
Nii Mensah Abiriw, a landowner who sold the property, dismissed the residents’ accusations.
Daniel Kwaku Owusu, Assembly Member for the Teiman Electoral Area, criticized landowners for failing to consult Town and Country planners before transferring land. He emphasized the need for due diligence in land development.

Residents are now calling for the immediate removal of the obstructive structures or proper land demarcation to ensure safety.
Channel One News observed that several other access roads in the area are partially or fully blocked by residential apartments, local businesses, and salons.
Asiedu, a local barber, expressed his readiness to relocate his shop to facilitate the proper construction of access roads.
He urged other business owners to involve authorities before establishing operations.
As a result, they are urgently appealing for intervention from authorities.
Meanwhile, officials from the Physical Planning Department of the La Nkwantanang Municipal Assembly have refrained from commenting, pending the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
