Executive Director of the Center for Alternative Politics and Security, Dr Muhammad Dan Suleiman has expressed satisfaction with President John Dramani Mahama’s resolve towards the Bawku conflict.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, February 8 with Selorm Adonoo, Dr Suleiman acknowledged the President’s effort during his visit to Bawku after his inauguration saying “I was happy that the President made his first visit outside Accra to Bawku.”
According to Mr Suleiman, a society must be able to resolve the conflict it creates.
“I think a society that is unable to resolve its conflict, a society that is unable to address the problems that it causes, is a society that lacks moral authority, has failed on the normative aspect of being a society to begin with.”
Mr Suleiman expressed hope that the situation is bound to improve because the President has shown resolve and has the goodwill of the citizens in dealing with the crisis.
“The situation is bound to improve for the first time in many years as we have a leader who has shown resolve to address security but also a leader who has the overwhelming support of the people to deliver on that promise.”
The Bawku conflict is a complex and long-standing conflict in Ghana’s Upper East Region.
