Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has called on members of the Appointments Committee to desist from creating impressions that the committee is a vehicle to settle political and personal scores.

Appearing before the Ad-hoc committee tasked to probe the Appointments Committee chaos, he noted that some statements made by the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin on Channel One TV prior to the committee’s sitting on Thursday, January 7 indicated that the minority had targeted some of the nominees.

According to Ablakwa, people had expressed concerns for him and the Minister-Designate for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, as some members of the minority had created an impression that they would be grilled during the vetting just to settle political scores.

Ablakwa suggested that committee members avoid comments that create inferences that the vetting sessions are used to settle political scores as it undermines the integrity of the committee.

“These comments that tend to prejudice the work of the committee, where the committee appears to become a vehicle for settling personal scores, for going after people who probably the minority might not like because of the work they have done, it has to be stopped. It undermines the work of the Appointments Committee,” he stated.
