The Eastern Regional House of Chiefs has urged politicians to stay off chieftaincy related issues to help maintain the sanity of the institution.

According to the Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite II, the recent involvement of politicians in chieftaincy related matters is not only reducing public trust in the institution but also fueling disrespect of the institution.

Delivering his opening remarks at the General Meeting of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs in Kyebi today, Nene Sakite II urged politicians to stay off chieftaincy matters.

“Previously when we talked about stakeholders in chieftaincy, everybody could imagine who they are. The Queenmother, the Kingmakers and the royals.

“But today, unfortunately when we talk about stakeholders, it includes politicians. I urge politicians to stay off chieftaincy.

“The time-tested and sustained institution, which is Chieftaincy must be enhanced that it wouldn’t be disrespected by others,” he stated.
