Prof Samuel Adu-Gyamfi, an Applied Historian at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has called for Frank Annoh-Dompreh to be held accountable for his comments regarding the Ablekuma North parliamentary situation.

This follows statements by Minority Chief whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, which have raised concerns about the potential for violence.

Annoh-Dompreh called on supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ablekuma North to stand by their fellow party members in confrontations with members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Addressing a gathering of party supporters during a visit by the NPP caucus leadership to the party’s parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Akua Afriyie, Annoh-Dompreh stated: “If indeed you are a member of the NPP and you go to meet your fellow party member fighting a member of the NDC, join your party member to beat the NDC member.”

The Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP also accused the NDC of deliberately obstructing the Electoral Commission (EC) from completing the collation process and warned that the NPP would not tolerate further delays.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Thursday, Prof Adu-Gyamfi emphasised the importance of addressing statements that could disrupt internal security and undermine the rule of law.

“Anything that has the tendency to disrupt internal security of this country, I believe, is an offence that cannot be overlooked. When some of these comments are made, appropriate institutions must act on them to ensure that such actors or individuals will not jeopardise the faith and commitment of this nation and the citizens therein to due process and rule of law,” Prof Adu-Gyamfi stated.

He stressed the need for key actors who use inciting language to be called to account.

“It is important that when key actors like this gentleman (Annoh-Dompreh) are found wanting or found to be using such language or statements that incite people, they are called to answer. When they are found faulty or foul, then they should be dealt with by law according to the constitution,” he explained.
