Parliament has officially approved the nominations of Rashid Pelpuo, Kofi Adams, Joseph Nikpe, and Murtala Ibrahim as ministers-designate, pending their swearing-in by President John Dramani Mahama.
The approvals followed rigorous debate and voting, highlighting the legislature’s commitment to scrutinizing executive appointments.
Newly approved Ministers and their portfolios:
- Rashid Pelpuo – Minister-designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment
MP for Wa Central, Pelpuo is expected to focus on job creation, labor conditions, and unemployment. - Kofi Adams – Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation
The former National Organizer of the NDC will oversee efforts to revamp the sports sector and promote recreational activities nationwide. - Joseph Nikpe – Minister-designate for Transport
Nikpe will tackle transportation challenges, with a focus on infrastructure development and improving public transit systems. - Murtala Ibrahim – Minister-designate for Environment, Science, and Technology
Ibrahim will spearhead environmental conservation, scientific innovation, and technological advancements.
However, the approval process was not without controversy. The Minority Caucus abstained from voting on Sam George, the Minister-designate for Communication, Technology, and Digital Innovation, citing concerns over his past remarks and conduct.
Despite this, the Majority side of the House proceeded with his approval.
