The Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists (GAMLS) has called on government and relevant stakeholders to ensure the provision of necessary logistics and resources to laboratories, in an attempt to curb the spread of cerebrospinal meningitis (CSM) especially in the affected regions.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 4, GAMLS noted the outbreak of CSM in the northern part of the country and underscored the vital role of medical laboratory testing in the early detection, accurate diagnosis, and effective management of CSM.

The association called on health healthcare facilities to prioritise laboratory diagnostics, while urging relevant authorities to undertake public education on the disease.

“GAMLS urges the government, public health institutions, and other stakeholders to intensify public health education campaigns focused on CSM prevention, early recognition of symptoms, and the importance of seeking timely medical attention,” the statement read.

GAMLS assures that its members across the country remain committed to delivering reliable and timely laboratory results to support clinical decision-making and patient care.
