A 14-year-old class 5 pupil of Alliance International School in Shama, John Yawson, has hanged himself in his father’s uncompleted building.
Reports indicate that the lifeless body of the boy was found hanging of the roof of the building aided by a rope.
Some locals of the community asserted that the deceased had offended his mother and was consequently denied food a day before.
They alleged that the situation with his mother may have incited him to commit suicide.
In an interview with Connect FM on Monday, February 3, the Assembly Member of the area, Enoch Arthur confirmed that the incident occurred on Sunday, February 2.
“I was informed of the incident so, I quickly organized my unit committee members, and we visited the scene. They had already taken him off the rope to the VRA Hospital because they thought he was still breathing.
“I was told, however, that he was confirmed dead upon arrival. His father has an uncompleted building, and that is where he went to commit suicide. He climbed up the building and tied the rope on the trusses of the roof”, he said.
According to Arthur, the father of the deceased who had travelled when the incident occurred collapsed after hearing about the unfortunate demise of his son.
He further revealed that the Shama District Police Command has initiated investigations into the incident.
The body has since been deposited at the St Edwards morgue within the district.
