Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini, has called on the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, to tone down his aggressive approach when expressing disagreements in Parliament.

Fuseini argued that Afenyo-Markin’s combative language is counterproductive and undermines rational discourse among lawmakers.

According to Fuseini, the Minority Leader’s belligerent tone often stirs up emotions rather than fostering constructive debate.

He emphasised that leaders have a responsibility to maintain decorum and ensure that their language encourages rational thinking and behaviour among their members.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Monday, January 3, 2025, Fuseini stated that Afenyo-Markin’s approach could have contributed to recent tensions in Parliament, including an incident involving the clerk of a committee.

He urged the Minority Leader to adopt a more measured tone while still making his case forcefully.

“Afenyo-Markin’s language is too belligerent to condition rational behaviour and thinking among his members. I will advise that he adopts a less belligerent tone. The psychology of emotions is that when your leader is so belligerent, he works his members up and probably that worked the members up. Before the distraction, you saw what happened to the clerk of the committee. So, I will advise the minority leader to be less belligerent. So, you can make your case as forcefully as you can without evoking emotions,” he stated.
