President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr Johnson Asiamah to serve as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), pending approval by the Council of State.
This announcement was made following a formal request by the current Governor, Dr Ernest Addison, to proceed on leave prior to his retirement, scheduled for March 31, 2025.
Dr Asiamah brings a wealth of experience to the role. He previously served as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2016 to 2017.
He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom.
In his over two-decade career at the BoG, spanning 23 years, Dr Asiamah has consistently demonstrated his commitment to fostering a stable financial system and implementing sound monetary and exchange rate policies.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President in the January 31 nomination letter, lauded Dr Asiamah and highlighted his proven track record in the banking and financial sector.
