The Minister-Designate for Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has announced plans to transform the Winneba Sports College into a modern university dedicated to training coaches and other sports-related professionals.

Speaking during his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee, Mr. Adams expressed concern over the current state of the institution, describing it as “a very sorry state” due to years of neglect.

“The Winneba Sporting College is now in a very sorry state. We have about four football pitches there, but only one is still really available for usage; the rest have been left to deteriorate. The guest houses are in a very bad state, the hostels as well are in a bad state,” he stated.

Despite the challenges, Mr. Adams noted that management has initiated some efforts to restore the facility. He pledged to build on these efforts and fully modernize the institution if approved as minister.

“When approved by this house, I will improve upon it as indicated. Because our intention is to turn it into a model university that can train coaches and all other sporting-related professionals as indicated in our manifesto,” he added.
