President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that the selection of the eight-member constitutional review committee was done impartially, without political bias.

Members of the committee, led by law professor and Executive Director of the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh, were sworn in by the President on Thursday, January 30.

In his speech, President Mahama urged the committee to engage widely with key stakeholders, gather their views on potential amendments, and provide practical recommendations to strengthen democratic governance.

He stressed that the committee should avoid producing a report that is ignored, like those in past administrations.

“This process must not become another chapter in the history of unfulfilled reformed efforts. It must be a turning point, a moment when Ghana moves decisively from discussion to action,” he stated.

The committee is expected to submit its recommendations for constitutional changes within six months for government consideration.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee, Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh addressing the media stated that the committee has limited time to work and will begin immediately to meet the six-month deadline.

“We will be getting to work almost immediately. We have a very short window of 6 months and I think once we begin the process, we will be able to identify what it is that we must focus on,” he said.
