Minister-designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has pledged to overhaul Ghana’s tourism and creative arts sectors, promising to foster growth, boost both local and international tourism, and leverage the country’s rich cultural heritage for sustainable development.

Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 22, 2025, Gomashie outlined her ambitious plans to rejuvenate the industry, highlighting its significant potential to contribute to Ghana’s economic growth and cultural preservation.

“There’s going to be a revamping of the tourism and creative arts sectors,” she declared, emphasizing the need to upgrade and market Ghana’s numerous tourist attractions, including historical sites, national parks, and scenic landscapes.

Gomashie identified inadequate infrastructure and limited investments as major obstacles preventing the country from fully capitalizing on its tourism potential.

She stressed the importance of addressing these challenges to position Ghana as a top global tourist destination.

She expressed her commitment to supporting the creative arts industry, which she described as a vital avenue for job creation, cultural expression, and national branding.

Abla Dzifa Gomashie proposed initiatives to provide financial and technical support to artists, filmmakers, and performers.

“The creative arts sector is not just about entertainment; it is a powerful tool for storytelling and national branding,” Gomashie stated, adding that she plans to establish partnerships between local creatives and international platforms to showcase Ghana’s talent on the global stage.

She highlighted the need to promote cultural festivals and traditions, which she believes can serve as unique selling points for the country.

“These festivals and traditions not only preserve our heritage but also offer a distinct experience that can attract global attention.”

The minister-designate has called on stakeholders across the tourism and creative arts sectors to collaborate and support her efforts. Her plans focus on infrastructure development, financial empowerment, and cultural promotion, which she believes will place Ghana at the forefront of global tourism and creative excellence.

Gomashie’s commitments have been widely praised as a comprehensive approach to revitalizing two critical sectors of Ghana’s economy.

“I am committed to ensuring that all Ghanaians, from urban centres to rural communities, feel the impact of a vibrant tourism and creative arts sector.”
