The Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing Ghana’s infrastructure challenges by prioritising the completion of stalled and abandoned road projects.

Appearing before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, January 20, the Adaklu Member of Parliament outlined his vision for tackling the country’s critical road infrastructure needs during his tenure.

Agbodza stressed that his ministry’s first-year agenda will center on ensuring that stalled road projects, many of which have left communities disconnected and economies stifled, are brought to completion.

He noted that this approach aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to prioritise ongoing infrastructure projects before embarking on new ones.

“The President has already given an indication that he will complete ongoing projects. So we have made that commitment and we intend to follow that.

“But I can foresee a situation where out of need, we may have to start some new projects to address urgent issues but the first year, our commitment will be to focus on critical road projects which have been abandoned to make them motorable for the use to which they were originally intended.”

Over the years, Ghana has witnessed a surge in abandoned road projects, often due to inadequate funding, poor planning, or changes in government.

These incomplete roads have become a source of frustration for citizens, who often bear the brunt of deteriorating infrastructure, such as impassable roads during the rainy season.

Agbodza acknowledged these challenges and assured Ghanaians that his administration would focus on delivering tangible results.
