Former Minister for Roads and Highways, Joe Gidisu has urged the government to exercise patience with digitising the road toll collection system.

This comes after the Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza during his vetting on Monday, January 20 assured the reinstatement of the road toll system with plans to digitise the collection process.

In an interview with Channel One News, Gidisu voiced his support for the idea of bringing back the road toll collection policy.

He recommended delaying the digitalization of the policy, arguing that the country is not yet prepared for such a system, citing challenges like unreliable electricity and the potential impact on employment.

“Today my brother was talking about raising it to a level whereby you don’t need to even stop at any point in time. I would want to tell them to hasten slowly because it is a very ambitious statement he is talking about.

“Look at our problem of electricity power supply which will definitely affect the process. One thing also is that we employ persons with disability so it is an employment generation also to look at, he stated.
