President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Justina Nelson as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income and Investment Fund (MIIF).
This appointment, made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the Constitution and Section 21(2) of the MIIF Act, 2018 (Act 978), was announced on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
Nelson brings over two decades of experience in the banking sector to her new role. She currently serves as a Group Head at Zenith Bank (Ghana) Limited, where she oversees both the Energy and Commercial Banking sectors. Her extensive background in banking and finance is expected to be a valuable asset to the MIIF.
Nelson’s academic credentials are equally impressive. She holds a Master of Laws in Corporate and Commercial Law and a Master in Business Administration (Marketing) from the University of Ghana. Additionally, she has a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Management and Psychology from the University of Ghana.
The appointment of Ms. Nelson is seen as a strategic move by President Mahama to strengthen the leadership of the MIIF and ensure the effective management of Ghana’s mineral resources. The President expressed confidence in Ms. Nelson’s ability to lead the Fund and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson to the President, stated, “Ms. Nelson’s appointment is a testament to her exceptional qualifications and dedication to public service. We are confident that she will excel in her new role and drive the MIIF towards achieving its objectives.”
The MIIF was established to manage the income generated from Ghana’s mineral resources and invest in projects that will benefit the country’s economy. With Ms. Nelson at the helm, the Fund is expected to continue its mission of promoting sustainable development and maximizing the benefits of Ghana’s mineral wealth.
