Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), has demanded an immediate retraction and apology from Martin Kpebu, a member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, over allegations that he agreed to return a parcel of state-owned land to halt further action against him.
In a statement issued by Quaicoe’s legal representatives, the claims made by Kpebu during his appearance on TV3’s “Keypoints” show were categorically denied and described as “contrived, false, and without any basis.”
The statement further criticized the subsequent republication of the allegations by various media outlets, emphasizing that Quaicoe has never engaged with the ORAL Committee or any of its members regarding any state-owned land. It reiterated that the Director-General has no illegally acquired property and described the allegations as defamatory.
Quaicoe’s legal team called on Martin Kpebu to retract his statements and issue a public apology, warning of potential legal action to defend their client’s reputation.
“We act for Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau. Our client’s attention has been drawn to widespread publications attributed to Mr. Martin Kpebu, a member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, alleging that our client, following engagements with the ORAL committee, has agreed to surrender a parcel of land belonging to the State, and that in consideration, the ORAL committee will not pursue further action against our client,” the statement read.
The statement further clarified that Quaicoe has never contacted or engaged with any member of the ORAL Committee, including Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, regarding any government land. It also asserted that Quaicoe does not possess any illegally-acquired government land.
“We urge the public to disregard these false statements calculated to injure our client’s reputation,” the statement continued. It also called on Martin Kpebu to retract his “utterly false and defamatory statements,” warning that legal action may be taken to protect Quaicoe’s name and rights if the retraction is not made.
Signed by Saviour Quarcoo Kudze, Counsel for Nana Attobrah Quaicoe, the statement reaffirmed the Director-General’s commitment to maintaining his integrity and reputation.
