President John Dramani Mahama has announced a move to amend the holiday act to include an additional holiday for Eid ul Fitr.

He made the promise during the National Prayers and Thanksgiving service held at the National Mosque at Kanda in Accra on Friday, January 10, 2025.

As he reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling promises made to the Muslim community during his election campaign, the President indicated that the amendment of the holiday act will be prioritized as soon as Parliament reconvenes.

“We promised to add one more holiday to the Eid al Fitr. So as soon as parliament settles, we’re going to amend the holidays act to include an extra holiday on the occasion of being a leader. And so this year, after we finish the fast of the Ramadan, we will have 2 holidays,” he stated.

The move by the President means that Muslims will enjoy two holidays for their Sallah celebration.

John Mahama also expressed gratitude to the National Chief Imam, Sheik Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, and the entire Muslim community for their support and prayers throughout the election period.

General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, also appealed to the Islamic group for continuous prayers for the President’s tenure.
