The family of a 15-year-old girl in the defilement case has expressed gratitude to the Overlord of Dagbon Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II for his intervention in the matter.

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly defiled by a 25-year-old man at Kulkpang in the Yendi municipality but a chief in Yendi, Zohe Naa asked the police to withdraw the case to his palace for settlement. The family was unhappy with the chief’s directive and demanded justice for their daughter.

The Overlord of Dagbon has, however, intervened to order the chief to allow the law to take its course. The family has expressed happiness about the Overlord’s directive.

Abdulai Yakubu, the father of the girl speaking to Channel One News said “I am very happy that the Overlord of Dagbon has intervened, that the lord must work on the issue. I want to thank him so much for what he has done,” he said.

He again expressed his thanks to the police for their support so far.

“Frankly speaking the police have done a lot and they are still working. I can’t pay them back frankly speaking. Day in and day out, they are with me in the hospital, checking on my daughter. They are always with us,” he added.

The police are on a manhunt for the suspect who is currently on the run.
