The National Identification Authority (NIA) has reiterated that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is obliged to ensure that contract staff engaged in the Ghana Card registration for children aged 6 to 14 years are paid.

This follows the contract staff known as “Team One Nationwide,” demanding their wages and indicating that they have diligently executed their duties but have yet to receive any compensation.

NIA, in a release issued on January 8, 2025, indicated that in December 2024, it fulfilled its obligation by ensuring that all contract staff under its purview received their full payment for October and November.

It said it was anticipated that the NHIA would follow suit and process payments for their allocated team; however, that did not happen.

The NIA said that on January 6, 2025, the Acting Executive Secretary of the NIA and his management team held a meeting with nine (9) representatives of the aggrieved group and reassured the representatives that it would consult with the NHIA to ensure that it paid them as soon as possible.

“An internal memo was subsequently issued to reinforce the assurance that payments would be made by NHIA within the shortest possible time,” it added.

The NIA therefore stressed that while it acknowledged that these temporary staff were issued contracts by the NIA, NHIA is obliged to ensure that these contract staff are paid.

It also said it was committed to maintaining transparency and upholding its contractual obligations.

“We urge the affected contract staff to exercise patience as we collaborate with our partners, NHIA, to resolve this matter promptly,” NIA added.
