The Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has commended President John Dramani Mahama’s selection of ministerial nominees, emphasizing their qualifications and the priorities they reflect.

On Thursday, January 9, President Mahama unveiled the first batch of his ministerial appointments, submitting the nominees to the Speaker of Parliament under Article 78 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana. The nominees include: Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson – Minister for Finance Designate, John Abdulai Jinapor – Minister for Energy Designate, Dominic Akuritinga Ayine – Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Designate

Speaking on Channel One TV, Edudzi Tameklo praised the choices, stating that the appointments underscore the president’s focus on revitalising the economy, addressing energy challenges, and strengthening law and order.

Edudzi highlighted Ayine’s extensive experience as a former Deputy Attorney-General, calling his appointment a “smooth transition” that reflects the president’s commitment to justice and legal reform.

“Because he has been a deputy AG before, this is a very smooth movement and if you look at the team, it gives you an indication of the priority of John Mahama which is the economy, energy and law and order,” he stated.

Regarding Ato Forson’s nomination, Edudzi stated: “The economy is everything. Dr Ato Forson, having been deputy finance minister before, appreciates the dynamics. Remember that for many years he was a ranking member of finance having become also the minority leader, it is understanding of the peculiar grounding of the economy is without doubt. I have always maintained that if you look at the role that Ato Forson played, even if he had several economies, we would not be where we are.

“…The Ghanaian economy is peculiar, and this man understands the economy. I am very confident that he can turn things around,” he stated.

He also expressed confidence in John Jinapor’s capacity to address the country’s energy sector issues, citing his previous role as Deputy Energy Minister and his years of experience as the ranking member on energy.

“The same applied to Jinapor. He has also been a deputy minister in the same administration. He appreciated the issues about our energy… More so, as you are aware of the current problem in our energy sector, I am still confident that his team is fantastic.”
