Political analyst Dr Ansah-Asante has urged President John Dramani Mahama to fulfil his promise of streamlining governance by limiting his administration to 60 ministers.

This call follows growing scepticism among Ghanaians regarding the feasibility of the President’s pledge to run a lean government, including regional ministers. Critics have raised concerns about whether such a structure can be achieved, given the history of bloated administrations.

While acknowledging the challenge of restricting ministerial appointments to 60, especially with thousands of CVs from hopeful candidates, President Mahama has expressed his commitment to the goal.

In an interview with Channel One News, Dr. Ansah-Asante emphasized the importance of not only adhering to the 60-minister pledge but also ensuring that the appointed ministers deliver results in line with the President’s vision. He stressed that this is crucial for maintaining public trust and demonstrating the effectiveness of the administration.

“He has no choice but to give us the exact number because we are spending too much for the ministers and we get very little. A typical example is the just ended Nana Akufo-Addo government which had a lot of ministers and very little they could show in the work that they did. That is why Ghanaians voted them massively out of office so the NDC leader, John Mahama did inform us that he will have a lean government, we expect nothing but a lean government,” he said.

Dr Ansah-Asante expressed confidence in the first set of ministerial nominations, stating that they are capable of delivering to expectation

“They are people with experience, all three of them. Competent, experienced and capable of discharging whatever duty assigned to them. So I do not doubt in my mind that if they go through the vetting which I know they will go through. They should be able to live up to expectations,” he added.
