The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has threatened industrial action following the alleged forceful eviction of its members from their official residences in Accra by armed individuals.
According to the association, the attack left numerous members displaced and caused significant property damage within the affected residences.
Channel One News visited the site, where residents expressed concerns about the possibility of a recurrence.
For years, the UNDP residence in Accra has provided a home for Ghanaian civil servants, serving as both a refuge for families and a hub for those contributing to the nation’s governance.
However, the recent events have left the area tense and uncertain, with reports of intimidation by armed individuals allegedly attempting to forcibly evict occupants.
Walking past shattered windows and damaged property, the extent of the destruction was evident. Residents shared their fears, with one describing the experience as “traumatizing” and expressing doubts about their safety.
In response, CLOGSAG leadership issued a stern warning, vowing to take industrial action if authorities fail to address the situation swiftly.
Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Isaac Bampoe Addo called for a thorough investigation into the alleged sale of government properties, a development they believe has exacerbated the plight of affected civil servants.
CLOGSAG’s call to action has put pressure on the government to intervene and ensure the safety and welfare of its workforce.
“It is the responsibility of the police to protect them. This has been going on since Friday night. By this time, they should have taken over the areas giving them police protection but so far nothing has been done. That is why we are calling on the IGP as a matter of urgency, to give them protection or else we will advise ourselves. We will lay down our tools, we cannot work in such an environment,” he stated.
Meanwhile, other residences in Roman Ridge, Ridge, Labone, and Kuku Hill (Osu) have also reportedly come under attack by the armed men, according to CLOSSAG.
