The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Afriyie, has vowed to resist any attempts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to manipulate the election results in their favor.
Nana Akua Afriyie reaffirmed her commitment to continue the fight until the very end.
Her comments followed the Electoral Commission’s decision to suspend the collation process on January 8, 2025, due to disruptions caused by representatives of both the NDC and the NPP.
In an interview with Channel One News’ Hanson Agyemang, Nana Akua Afriyie, who is confident of securing victory, stated that she is “comfortably” leading the polls so far.
“I want to say it on record that I will fight this till the end because I know that I won. I have all my 281 pink sheets scanned, I did it immediately before the Kalamu gentleman [NDC’s Constituency Organiser, Musa Kalamu], tore everything from the EC. You can witness what went on right now, he took one pink sheet and tore it and it was taken from him. That has been the character in the constituency.”
“We’re left with three polling stations, by the grace of God, I’m leading comfortably…”
Chaos erupted at the Greater Accra Regional Office during the resumption of the collation of results for Ablekuma North by the Electoral Commission, sparking heightened tensions, on January 8, 2025.
The incident stemmed from accusations by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the EC was collaborating with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to manipulate election results in the constituency.
The NDC’s Constituency Organiser, Musa Kalamu, alleged that the EC was aiding the NPP in doctoring figures from pink sheets of outstanding polling stations.
The Returning Officer for Ablekuma North, Vincent Obeng, has announced his decision to halt the collation of results for the constituency.
He has requested the Electoral Commission to appoint a successor, citing frustrations encountered during the results collation on January 8, 2025.
Mr Vincent Obeng noted that the collation process remains incomplete for three polling stations, having successfully collated results from four out of seven outstanding polling stations.
