Ghana’s newly inaugurated President, John Dramani Mahama, has praised Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 Presidential candidate, for his prompt concession of defeat.

After the 2024 general elections, Bawumia conceded on December 8 and extended his congratulations to Mahama.

In a national address on the same day, Bawumia revealed that he had personally reached out to Mahama, the then-flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to convey his congratulations.

During his inaugural address at Independence Square in Accra on January 7, Mahama extended his best wishes to Bawumia in his future endeavours.

“I extend my warmest wishes to H.E. former Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, it was a gruelling campaign. And we gave it our all.

“Your sportsmanship in making an early concession eased tensions and contributed to the early conclusion of the electoral contest. I wish you all the best in your endeavours.”
