A severe fire has ravaged several shops in Bolgatanga, the capital of the Upper East Region. The blaze erupted near the stadium traffic light, just a week after a nearby restaurant was also destroyed by fire.
Firefighters acted promptly to tackle the flames and successfully put out the fire, though they faced difficulties accessing the site.
Speaking to Channel One News, DO II Nibunu Callistus, the Upper East Regional Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, revealed that the fire originated from a burning refuse dump situated close to a shop that sells tricycles.
“Investigation revealed that there was rubbish that was burnt behind a dealer’s shop, and it was not properly done, the fire got into contact with some oil and containers that escalated it,” he said.
