The Koforidua High Court has upheld an injunction application restraining Ernest Kumi, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia, from assuming the position of Member of Parliament-elect for the constituency.

This ruling effectively prevents the Clerk of Parliament from swearing in Kumi as the MP for Akwatia.

The decision has significant political implications, particularly concerning the composition of the incoming Parliament.

The court presided over by His Worship Justice Senyo Amedahe, convened on Sunday, January 5, to hear a challenge from Kumi’s legal team, who had contested an earlier injunction issued by the same court.

The Akwatia seat was among several contested in the December 2024 elections, with results announced by the Electoral Commission at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra.

On Thursday, January 2, the court granted an injunction at the request of NDC parliamentary candidate, Henry Boakye Yiadom, prohibiting the swearing-in of Kumi.
