Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged support to the traders affected by the Kantamanto market fire, donating GH¢200,000 to provide immediate relief to the victims.
The donation is part of the government’s efforts to assist those who lost their livelihoods in the devastating blaze.
Dr. Bawumia visited the scene on Monday, January 6, 2025, to assess the damage and speak with traders, many of whom were left distraught by the tragedy.
Accompanied by a team of government officials, he expressed his condolences and reassured the victims of the government’s continued support during this challenging time. Dr Bawumia also promised assistance with the reconstruction of the market and the installation of CCTV cameras to improve security.
“We will investigate the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire. Coming here, I have seen that work has commenced and I am happy. With the little help we can offer, we will bring that on board to ensure that the market becomes a befitting one. I know you need a lot of items to put up on the market. We will do well to help you with those.
” When we finish the market, there is something I want to propose. We have to ensure that we establish an internal security. Apart from the internal security, I will ensure that we install CCTV cameras around the market. Even though we are getting out of the office, I will personally ensure that the cameras are brought and installed.
